Dear Dr. P,

I always enjoy reading your articles, you share such thoughtful ideas and new ways of looking at things. I totally agree that we’re the ones who have to create our own happiness. No one else can really do it for us.

When I first saw the photo, I didn’t even realize I was in it! Then I read the caption and saw it was from 2022…and there I was. That was such a fun surprise, haha!

Thanks for sharing this, and the video was really lovely too! 🙏🏽

I know when I see my grandchildren in-person or on FaceTime video, it makes me happy. And when my sister calls me on the phone, as she often does, that makes me happy too. / To trust people. That’s an interesting suggestion because people usually don’t trust others that are different from them. It would be a wonderful world if only we could respect everybody on the planet, unless that person has done you or others great harm. This is my belief. Then to go further still by trusting one another that could be a worthwhile challenge.

There's a lyric from the Ricky Nelson song, "Garden Party", that resonates with me: "You can't please everyone,so you've got to please yourself.". Happiness comes from self acceptance. It comes from within. Be your authentic self and do what you think is right.

Thank you so much for being you, and sharing yourself with us!

I'm wanting to work on cultivating this inner happiness and I love this article. I'm starting with small things and awareness. Sometimes for me the idea of being "content" rather than happy is more comfortable. Have to think on this, I've always joked that Eeyore is my spirit animal.

Me too!! Same with Eeyore! I also think “contentment” is a better thing to strive for than “happiness”.
