This article is so beautiful and relevant. I try each day to find at least one joyful thing to think about. Some days it's hard to do,but if we just take a quiet moment and a deep breath,we can find something. Thank you!!

I am weeping as I read your article. You have beautifully articulated the heartbreaking situation in which we (especially we Americans) find ourselves. I will print this article out and read it every morning as my meditation for the day. Thank you so much — sending you love and warmth from Arizona.

I think I am about 98% successful at (daily) finding something joyful to focus on, in spite of everything going on… but the rage and grief I feel over the current state of government in the U.S. right now can’t be ignored. Maybe like Sharon Hanson I should print your article and read it daily.

Having kept a gratitude journal for decades, I will say that moments of smiles, giggles, hugs, and joy experiences - however brief - make a huge difference to my mental & physical health. Some days, it can be a bit harder, but I'm determined. Doing Bhangra dancing badly, and laughing as I dance about - a joy!!

Thank you. We must be good medicine for one another. The people of the world are not in conflict (only their institutions are creating conflict). I want to learn new dances, new recipes and more. To anyone that may read this...peace, let us learn wonderful things from one another.

Thank you Gurdeep for making your videos.

Gurdeep what a wonderful Canadian, a true Northern Spirit! Love your dancing and all you say and the joy you spread! Lead us all ALL CANADIANS in a dance of joy maybe at the same time, across all the time zones, whoever can do this as an antidote to the evil orange idiot to the South while we reclaim our economic and political sovereignty and before ANY election happens, please!

Blessings to you!

Thank you for your words on joy but I’m not sure how to create joy within me. Perhaps you could give some examples. Where am I supposed to find joy? Love the dance & music in your video!

To be honest, I’m not sure if I recognize joy any longer. I need to learn how to find it, develop it, then nurture it. The World has turned more ugly and to survive the chaos and hatred, I must do this. Where to start?

I don't know. Maybe... first breathe. Then smile. It's a beginning.

Oh.... and don't listen to those worrying thoughts.

Replace them with blessings for the future.

Maybe Joy isn't something we have to find. Maybe it's waiting in our hearts all the time, but as adults, we've been taught to squish it into a little ball so it doesn't distract us from all the "serious" challenges we face. We may have been suppressing our natural joy for so long that we don't even realize that’s what we’re doing. If so, children and dogs can be our teachers. They tend to let joy play right through them, like a breeze through trees.

And I think Gurdeep is right, music and motion loosen the bonds we put on our joy. Perhaps we can try dancing in the kitchen, or taking five minutes to sit with a hot beverage and listen, really listen, to a favorite piece of music? Maybe our joy will start leaking out?
